The Bristol Bay Watershed produces the world¹s greatest commercial salmon fishery and internationally renowned salmon and trout runs that attract anglers from all over the world. The waters in this region have long been an integral part of the State¹s economy and have provided sustainable jobs, subsistence foods and other benefits to Alaskans for generations. |

Toxic Byproducts of Mining
This is the premier fishing and wildlife
area in all of Alaska and toxic by-products are an inevitable
result of large open pit mines like the proposed Pebble miine..
The spawning waters of Bristol Bay are the source of the most
productive commercial and sport salmon fisheries in the world. |

Most Memorable Quote:
"We're committed to preserving your subsistence
way of life. Does that mean there will be no effects on your subsistence
way of life? No, of course not. How could you have an open-pit tailings
pond with zero effect on your subsistence way of Life? The real
question is what's the nature, the timing and the magnitude of the
effect."
Bruce Jenkins of Northern Dynasty Minerals speaking
to residents of the Native Village of Newhalen, Alaska regarding
the proposed Pebble Mine.
